It just sunk in.

It really just sunk in today that I’m going to Washington as a National Youth Correspondent. I finally got around to having my press releases sent out. It got published in my town’s blog thing. I guess it just hadn’t felt real up until now. I am really so insanely excited. I am really so excited. This has been the best opportunity I’ve been given. It’s an honor that I’m happy to accept. 10 more days!

About me!

Where to begin….my name is Hannah Michele Hickman, age 15, born on September 4, 1996. Virgo representing! I’m an upcoming Junior at Brick Memorial in Brick, New Jersey. I have two awesome parents, and a great older brother who is getting married in November, and the most amazing 4 year old nephew, Ayden. Anytime we have free time during the conference, you’ll probably find my head in a book, or on Skype with my boyfriend, Nick. I have a great collection of weird rings that I’m sure all of you will see at some point or another. Hmm…what else…my taste in music is eclectic to say the least. There really isn’t anything I don’t listen to besides country. I’m in my school’s drama club, tech crew, Key Club, chorus and…I think that’s it. Former member of the marching band/concert band too! I am a pianist, singer and aspiring violinist. Hmm…I can sign (as in use sign language) and some basic Italian. Speaking of which, four days after my trip, I’m going to Italy for a week for my sixteenth birthday. Wish my luck on my first flight!

I seriously cannot wait to meet all of you. I keep looking through the schedule. Will we even have time to breathe?! Anyone read the books from the reading list? I’m going to start reading the one by Hoda Kotb on the four hour car ride there. Hopefully I’ll finish it before I meet her. Anyone else having problems with the congressmen contacting them? Just me? I’ve been trying to contact them since February and I keep getting blown off. New Jersey Congressmen, if you’re reading this, please e-mail me back!

11 more days until I get to see all of your beautiful and crazy faces!

From the beginning

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….

Okay, not the beginning. I got my letter in January saying that I had been nominated to attend this. To be honest, I was not entirely sure if it was legitimate or not. At that point, I have already received two other conference invites that were really just open to anyone. After looking into it more, I was absolutely honored and beyond excited. I was skeptical as to whether my parents would even let me go.  It took almost no convincing. When I got my acceptance, I was ecstatic. 12 days away, I can still not believe I am going. I started asking around, wondering who nominated me. All of my teachers have never heard about it but congratulated me nonetheless. When I asked the staff, they said they either didn’t know or couldn’t tell. However, they said that the people at Collegeboard could have nominated me if my scores were well enough. I have mostly given up on figuring out if it was anyone for sure who nominated. I’m just happy that I was given this opportunity. I’m almost completely ready. I just need to do a bit more shopping, reading and packing and then I’m ready for the 4-5 hour drive there! 12 more days!

Wow, so soon!

I cannot believe the conference is only 13 days away. I can hardly believe I’m actually going. Already, I’ve met some amazing people who I’m looking so forward to meeting in person. Of course, there are some awesome people, like Hoda Kotb, that I can’t wait to meet and talk to. My bags are slowly becoming packed and it’s an absolute mess. It’s crazy around here as I’m trying to shop and pack and figure out where everything is. Can’t wait to see everyone there! 😀
